Conficker Updates: Version E & Scareware & Self Destruct

10 April 2009 27 views No Comment

Some new developments have shown up for the Conficker worm and some of them are quite interesting.  It has been a week since Version D went online and that it cross references about 50,000 domains a day, can be updated through P2P software and the payload has yet to come.

As for the latest updates for the Conficker worm include a new version (Conficker.E) of which includes the the original Microsoft vulnerability,  attempt to block and stop even more existing programs that ae used to scan for Conficker.  However, Conficker.E now has a self destruction to this update and PCWorld says that this date is May 3, 2009 and usually when a worm self destructs that again is a big sign that a payload is coming.

As for the scareware, it seems to be using fake anti-virus pop ups to buy fake anti-virus software and so if you come across these kind of pop ups, the best thing to do is is ctrl+alt+delete and shut down your browser that way.  This is due to the fact those pop ups never close when you hit the cancel button.

As for the more serious things, PCWorld did up an article of what to look for now in Conficker.D and Conficker.E and so now that a destruction date is looming, it is wise to start protecting your computer systems now and that way don’t suffer the damages of the self destruction date that is less then a month away.
