Twitter Worm StalkDaily On The Loose
Its funny the moment I joined Twitter last week, Twitter gets slammed with their own worm, and the fool to advertise that he did it was 17-year old Michael “Mikeyy” Mooney. The worm is called StalkDaily or Mikeyy and as for what this worm does is spam tweets in affected twitter accounts. Luckily Mikeyy was smart enough to name brand himself on his worm and then fess up to it later that weekend. As for the reason he did this, “I was bored.”
First off, you were not really bored, you wanted to do something stupid just to see how many people you could screw over and the count was at 100 accounts being affected by this. Knowing the justice system you should see some jail time if Twitter pushes for it. Of, course Twitter was quick to act and there are several solutions to prevent this worm from affecting you or if you already are infected there is a solution for this as well.
IF NOT INFECTED
Do not click on any messages that say Mikeyy or StalkDaily in it, also Twitter recommends using third part applications to use twitter and not the website because all it takes to get infected is to visit a infected profile. They recommend using Twhirl or TweetDeck for third party applications to do your tweeting in.
IF INFECTED
If you are infected PCWorld recommends the following actions, “If you’ve noticed any suspicious activity from your profile that includes the words above, then most certainly you’re infected. It is very important for users not to retweet (RT) any of the fake messages. Clear your browser cache and turn off JavaScript. Log into Twitter and delete any messages your profile automatically posted that contain the word “Mikeyy”. You can turn JavaScript back on so you change your bio and URL, and reset your color scheme from your profile. Additionally, changing your password could be a safe measure. After all the steps above were completed, log out of your account and you can continue using Twitter via a desktop client.“
As of right now I am not sure if the worm has been removed or not, but I keep you updated when I get the latest.
